Quarterly Board Packets: What Executives Actually Skim
After six quarterly deliveries to logistics and municipal clients last year, we tracked which pages executives kept on their desks versus which appendices only analysts opened.
Chart 1: Idle band by vehicle class
Not a leaderboard of worst drivers—a shaded band showing normal idle range for each class with outliers marked. Executives use it to approve seasonal staffing without reading every unit row.
Chart 2: Maintenance spend vs. utilization index
Scatter plot pairing each unit's utilization index with maintenance cost per active hour. Clusters reveal classes that may be over-maintained or running past economic life. Finance grasps it quickly because both axes are ratios, not raw invoices.
What they skip
Detailed parts SKUs and daily mileage tables stay in the appendix. Including them in the main PDF reduced readership in our client feedback sessions.
